Bio/CV

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Michelle Lee Rigell is a St. Louis-based contemporary realism artist who works in acrylics.

Rigell attended Vanderbilt University, where she received her BA in Asian Studies and Neuroscience with the goal to attend medical school.  Although she does not have any formal education in art, Rigell began painting when she was four years old under the instruction of Atlanta artist, Penelope Van der Putten, and received her first set of oil paints when she was eight.

Since 2015, Rigell has shown her work in several locations in the Greater St. Louis area including Angad Arts Hotel, SOHA Gallery and Art Saint Louis.  In March 2015, Rigell began volunteering as an instructor for the Arts As Healing Foundation (AAH), a 501(c)(3) organization that brings the therapeutic benefits of art to cancer patients and those with chronic illnesses.  In June of 2016, she coordinated her first major art show and fundraiser at the Duane Reed Gallery featuring artwork by the patients who participate in the AAH program with an attendance of over 500 guests.  She is now the assistant director of AAH and the gallery assistant at the Duane Reed Gallery.  Rigell has also participated in several other fundraising art events such as Wall Ball for Artscope, Art of PAWS for St. Louis Effort for AIDS and The Blooming Artists Project.
